Summer Sports Camps

During the summer, athletes are expected to train hard to stay in shape and prepare for the upcoming season. Football, girls tennis, boys and girls cross country, girls golf, and boys soccer all practice and condition in the mornings at LSW. Most teams do conditioning in June and July and hold tryouts in the first week of August to allow for enough real practices before the first games, matches or meets of the season.

“The worst part about tennis conditioning in the summers is waking up to be here by 7:30 and the amount of running we have to do,” said senior, Sydney Halas. The head tennis coach is Todd Wilson, teacher at Pleasant Lee Middle School. “We like to construct our summer conditioning with a week of conditioning before we organize the kid’s camps just so we can get our girls back in shape and playing because some of them don’t play during the off season.”

Football practices are notorious for being very extensive. The boys practice every day for approximately 5 hours. Most players, like sophomore Caleb Pennington, say the worst part about it is “having to wake up at 5:30am every morning.” Junior, Drew Cook, says, “the best part about being apart of the football team is getting to be with all the guys. We’re all pretty close so it’s fun to be with them.”

LSW has a lot to offer for summer conditioning. All sports have practices throughout the summer but regardless of participating in a sport at West, a conditioning session is available for anyone interested.  Usually it is offered for the month of June and lasts a few hours each weekday morning. Sports and conditioning are great and healthy ways to stay involved with the school.
