The 75th MMEA conference, or Missouri Music Educators Association, gathers in Tan-Tar-A, a resort on Lake of the Ozarks, each year for a weekend of professional development. However, music teachers are not the only ones who share in the excitement of MMEA.

Emily Swaters, freshman at Lees Summit West, has the exciting honor of being in one of the few orchestras which perform at the 75th MMEA. Swaters is in the highest level orchestra of the Youth Symphony of Kansas City.

“The Youth Symphony of Kansas City is like being in a giant musical family where every member has a passion for making music,” says Swaters, “just having the honor of being selected to go to MMEA and being able to perform is such an awesome privilege.”

The Youth Symphony of Kansas City practices intently for their MMEA performance which includes Hoedown by Copland, Les Prédules by Liszt, and Russian and Ludmilla by Glinka.

“MMEA is such a fun experience for everyone that is there,” says Swaters, “I am so excited I can be a part of it this year.”
