The Lee’s Summit West Theatre will be performing “She Kills Monsters,” written by Qui Nguyen, on Oct. 15, 16, and 17. The play is about a teen girl grieving after the death of her sister, who then finds herself trapped in the world of Dungeons and Dragons. According to Head of Makeup, senior Jayci Stowe, the play is about “tragic losses, self discovery and family. It showcases two sisters and their bond through D&D [Dungeons and Dragons] after the youngest sister dies in a tragic accident.”

Because the show is based in fantasy, the costumes and makeup bring a whimsical feeling with them. Stowe said, “I think the makeup really brings the story together because it just fully immerses the audience in this magical, video-gamey type fantasy world. It brings you fairies, demons, dragons, etc. all to the forefront and just ties everything together.”

Stowe was actually out of school for a week, after testing positive for COVID-19, but she said ‘The show must go on!’ “My crew still worked really hard to make sure this show could still happen even though I wasn’t there to direct them and I think it really shows their initiative as well, just being able to work independently without direct instructions from me,” Stowe said. The play is a main stage production, and tickets can be purchased at https://www.showtix4u.com/event-details/55701
