The name Monte Harrison has sung out across the Titan Stadium more times than not this football season. The three sport Junior has made name for himself as someone with a winning record and a winning personality.
The wide receiver has helped lead the Titans to an exciting undefeated season, something Harrison said he was proud of but won’t be thinking about as season goes on. “It’s going great, an undefeated regular season, but we really can’t focus on that because it’s in the past. Now we have to focus on the team the were playing each week instead of looking ahead and thinking about Semis or State,” said Harrison.
Living in the moment is a common theme in Harrison’s athletic strategy. From enjoying each play to not getting down about a rough game or practice, Harrison takes life as it comes. “Well previous years I’ve just been sitting on the side line, but there’s a time a place for things to happen and I’m guessing my time is now. I love what I’m doing and the team I’m on. I wouldn’t change a thing right now.”
Harrison is known for this positivity and his athletic ability, but also for his pre-game hype. “People say I’m crazy by the way I act before the games,” said Harrison. “ But, I don’t know, that’s just how I show how I’m excited or the a game!” Harrison’s pre-game ritual consists of listening to music and watching football videos earlier in the day, and then as he takes the field displaying all of his excitement through jumping and running around.
Harrison’s passion for the game and winning record have more than just Titans cheering his name. Harrison has already gotten offers from Mizzou to play football and from Arkansas, KU, and a second offer from Mizzou to play baseball. While he’s not sure where he’ll end up yet, Harrison said the most important aspect of whatever school he picks will be that it feels like family.
Though for now the Titans are happy to enjoy watching Harrison dominate the field and Harrison is happy to know that “ I have an extra year of high school football left,” said Harrison.
