On Thurs, November 20th the West volleyball girls hosted  the “Macho Man Volleyball Tournament.” This allowed any boys in the school to come together to form teams to play volleyball in a round-robin style tournament and the winner of the all the boys got to play the varsity girls.

The purpose of the event was to raise money and collect canned goods for Hope House.

In the semi-finals, the “Greenwoodies” played the “Connor Lyon” team for the chance to move on and play part of the varsity girl’s team.

The “Connor Lyon” beat the “Greenwoodies” and advanced only to be crushed by the girls team.

In the first game the girls won 25-15 and in the second they won 4-25.

Senior Alex Keys of the Greenwoodies said, “going into the tournament we knew there was some good competition but I thought we had a good shot.” Keys and his team said they expected to do better and really wanted to play the girls but fell just short of that goal.

Senior Bryce Kreikemeier said the best part about the tournament was getting the chance to take on the girls.

Kreikemeier said his favorite varsity player is either Carlisa May or Elle Sandbothe. “They are both just awesome and I like that Elle talks trash too.”

Volleyball Coach Lori Hanaway said that the tournament was a success because all the teams seemed to have fun despite their outcome and they raised awareness and money for Hope House.
