The Boys Swim and Dive teams first meet is at the South Rock Invitational on Saturday, Aug. 31, at the Blue Springs YMCA. Their first home meet, at the LSR7 Aquatic Center, is Tuesday, Sept. 3, against LSNHS and LSHS at 3:45 P.M.
This year’s team is going into the season with two less seniors than last year. Head Coach Jennifer Ailshire said, “ Carson Spencer was the senior leader on the swim team last year, This was due to his ability to get the guys focused when they needed to be. He was an All-State swimmer and as a non-club swimmer, he worked very hard during the high school season to reach that status. As he worked hard, it pushed others to work hard as well. He was also good about talking with everyone on the team, not just the varsity guys.”
Swim and Dive only has a conference meet at the end of the season, rather than conference and districts. Swimmers and divers qualify for the state meet throughout the season, based on qualifying times and dive standards. Last year Swim took 2nd at the conference meet, losing by 2 points. Ailshire said, “This season, I look for the team to win conference. I believe we have the top end guys, plus the depth to have all of our varsity swimmers and divers place higher this season than last season,” Ailshire said.
