¨A new era” of music has risen from America’s sweetheart, 16 year old country singer. We have watched Taylor Swift over the years slowly fade more and more away from country music and transformed into America’s top pop singer. With songs like ‘Shake It Off’, ‘Bad Blood’, and ‘Blank Space’, she has officially announced that she has stepped out her old ways and into new ones. Her most recent album ‘1989’ which was released in October of 2014 was her official turning point in music genre.
Her tour for the album in Kansas City was held at the Sprint Center on Monday, September 21 and Tuesday, September 22. The concert began at 7:30 PM and ran until around 11:40 PM. The audience was given LED bracelets on the back of their chairs that were synced to the music during the concert.
Vance Joy opened for Swift. He performed a few of his many songs and closed with Riptide. Swift opened with Welcome To New York with Broadway as the backdrop. She spoke briefly of how Kansas city was one of her favorite places to perform and that it had been almost two years since she had paid a visit. She then then changed through seasons and backdrops, blowing through many songs in her album.
Sophomore, Carsyn Overin said that her favorite song from the show would have to have been Style because she really got to jam out with her friends.
After intermission, Swift started by saying that even though her music was changing, country music where she got her start, would never be forgotten and would be a part of her forever.
Then she introduced her surprise guest, Dierks Bentley, singing his hit song Every Mile. After his performance she then sang some old time favorites like ‘You Belong With Me’, ‘Enchanted’ and ‘Love Story’. She explained how the album name ‘1989’ was the year she was born and that she thought it would be a good theme as if she were being reborn into the music world.
Swift then gave a powerful speech that really spoke to her fans about love and heartbreak which lead into another song from her album called ‘Clean’. Taylor ended her show with a big blow out of confetti and shooting sparks to top ranked song, ‘Shake It Off’. All in all it was a show for the books and the crowd can’t wait to see her on her next tour.
