The Lee’s Summit West girls cross country team competed in sectionals on Saturday, October 27. The team, consisting of freshman Kourtney West, sophomores Samantha Phillips and Lauren Erickson, and juniors Elizabeth Nolke, Kennadee Williams, Annika Sisson and Kiersten West, won first place with a score of 39. St. Teresa’s Academy was second place with 45 points.

“It was a close race between us and St. Teresa’s and we battled some injuries. But it was a good race that brought us closer as a team as we pack-ran together,” said Williams.

This win was the sixth straight sectional title for the girls team which they are hoping will lead to their sixth straight state title.

“We know that we have a lot of competition on the St. Louis side of the state, but we are beyond excited. We have some high goals and expectations for us as individuals, our coach, and the LSW name but we have trained long and hard for this meet in particular. Our training will hopefully lead us to success,” said Williams.

They will head to state on November 2 in Jefferson City.
