The West tennis team joins the fight against breast cancer with their new upcoming event, Rally for the Cure.
Rally for the Cure is a fundraiser formulated by the girls tennis team, similar to the volleyball team’s Dig for the Cure and the soccer team’s Pink Out.
Senior Madeline Thompson was one of the girls who helped develop the idea for the fundraiser, along with Seniors Allison and Laura Kelly.
“We liked seeing volleyball do [Dig for the Cure], and then we saw soccer, so we wanted to do something cool like that for our senior year, something cool and fun that would keep going,” said Thompson.
The Rally for the Cure game is Monday against Lee’s Summit North. The tennis team will be selling Rally for the Cure T-shirts at lunch this
week, and snacks at the game. 100 percent of the proceeds made will go to the Susan G. Komen foundation to help fight breast cancer.
Thompson said she hopes that Rally for the Cure will continue throughout the years as a West tennis tradition.
“This is our last year as seniors, and we don’t have quite enough control over that,” said Thompson. “But that was the goal, that it would be something that other people would want to keep doing.”
